Why this matters

The agent economy is growing faster than the infrastructure to secure it. AI agents transact, communicate, and install capabilities autonomously — but there is no universal standard for verifying who they are, what they are authorized to do, and whether their behavior history is trustworthy.

The MolTrust Protocol addresses this gap. It defines a complete verification standard for autonomous software agents, built on W3C Decentralized Identifiers and Verifiable Credentials, with on-chain anchoring on Base L2. A Perplexity-powered literature search across academic databases, industry reports, and existing protocols found no equivalent framework that combines all three layers.

Three-layer architecture

Each layer can be adopted independently. The Protocol Standard defines the credential format. The Reference Registry provides on-chain anchoring. The Reputation Model adds decentralized trust scoring. Together they form the complete verification stack.

On-chain anchored

Both documents are permanently anchored on Base L2. The SHA-256 hash of each document is stored in the transaction calldata — tamper-evident, publicly verifiable, permanently immutable.
